Hanoi, 12 September 2024 – A massive storm, the strongest to hit Vietnam in decades, has claimed nearly 200 lives, with 27 children tragically losing their lives in a single village.

The storm triggered severe flash floods that swept through Lang Nu village in Northern Vietnam, home to 158 residents.

The violent torrent of water and mud, cascading down from nearby hills, destroyed homes and schools, leaving 41 people dead and 54 still missing, including children. More than 188,000 homes across the region have been damaged or destroyed, according to Save the Children.

Authorities continue rescue and recovery efforts, but the devastating impact has left communities in shock as they search for loved ones buried under mud and debris.
